Your Questions, Answered

  • A common questions is what is the difference between therapy and counseling -- are they interchangeable?  I provide both, but they are different.  Counseling can provide the experience of being "heard" and offers short term tools to make someone or a situation feel better.  Therapy, on the other hand, usually involves a change, whether it's through looking to the past to gain insight, or looking at the present to do a different behavior.  How does that work?  Metaphorically, the process of change is similar to learning to swim.  You have to let go of one side of the swimming pool to get to the other, yet letting go is scary and unfamiliar.  As your therapist, I will  use my education, training experience and empathy to help you "stay afloat" through the scary and unfamiliar while you are trying to get to the other side.

  • Interestingly, the answer to that question depends on YOU and your level of readiness, honesty, and commitment.  When people do the work of therapy, they are able to reap fulfilling results from gathering insight and awareness, reframing situations, and creating change.

  • The duration of therapy is different for everyone.  Goals, presenting issues, maturity, and motivation can all affect the duration of treatment.  Services run the gamut from short term solution focused therapy to longer term modalities, depending on the client(s) and the situation.  We will discuss this at your first appointment.

  • Yes. This is necessary to establish safety and confidentiality.  There are a few exceptions which will be thoroughly discussed at your first session.  These exceptions are in the interest of providing client safety.

  • Appointment/Payment Options:

    Individual:
    50 minute session $275

    Couples/Conjoint:
    50 minute session  $275;  75 minute session $410

Individual and couples/conjoint sessions are available for 50 and 75 minute appointments.   I recommend 75 minute sessions for couples/conjoint although that can vary case to case.  Longer sessions are available when scheduled in advance and charged pro rata for the additional time.

Payment is due at time of service.  I use IVY PAY and square to collect payment for sessions.   You may use any major credit card or your HSA card.

Important note:  I do not accept insurance:  I am a cash pay therapist.  I am not in network with any insurance panels.  Upon request, I am able to offer a superbill for paid services.

  • I am strictly a cash pay therapist and not on any insurance panels.   Ultimately, you are responsible for payment at the time of your session.

  • Your therapy session is time which is reserved by you, for you.  I require 24 hours’ notice to cancel an appointment without being charged.   If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, you will be charged for the time unless we can reschedule to another time which I have available in that week.   There is no guarantee that another appointment will be available.
